Cusrow Wadia Institute of Technology (CWIT)

Cusrow Wadia Institute of Technology (CWIT), Pune, an autonomous institute, has a superior work culture, positive attitude of faculty and staff, and transparency in systems and operations since the grant of autonomy in 1985. TheAutonomous status has resulted into motivation, more commitment and a sense of belongingness in the faculty, staff and students which has lead to a better quality of education.

This institute started by Modern Education Society, Pune in the year 1938 with only Diploma in Electrical Technology now has five diplomas of engineering disciplines. The Institute is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee in 2012. Institute has provided more than 10,000 quality engineers to the Nation till date. Among the first Polytechnic in Maharashtra, to be accredited by NBA, New Delhi, CWIT is also accredited by Dutch Council for Accreditation for ISO 9001.

It also received awards for ‘Best Polytechnic in Maharashtra’ and ‘Best Faculty Development’ from ISTE, New Delhi. Since the inception of autonomy, the Institute has made a rapid progress in teaching and learning processes. The institute plans its academic activities, revises curriculum every 5 years as per the needs of Industry, and imparts flexibility in various academic programs.

The Institute has set up program-wise ‘Boards of Studies’ in which there is an active participation of  senior professionals from industry for design, monitoring and review of curriculum. The Institute declares the results within a week after term- end examinations, which helps to spare more time of 18 to 20 weeks for actual academics.

Various Learning Management Systems have been designed for effective Teaching Learning Process. Institute has a strong rapport with the industry. Various additional inputs in soft skills and professional practices are the integral part of curriculum and also, value addition is done with the help of experts in the field. Due to Autonomy, Institute is able to give more thrust on practicals so as to inculcate technical and professional skills and imbibe project culture.

Various academic monitoring processes along with on-line feedback from students and regular parents meetings are the important practices adopted for review of the progress and implementation of academic activities. Institute conducts several social awareness programs in schools in and around Pune so as to attract quality students in Diploma Engineering Education. The Institute is playing a role of a lead Polytechnic in the region by assisting various other Polytechnics to set up quality systems and processes by sharing its best practices.

The Institute also organized National Level and State Level Conventions of Indian Society for Technical Education and several training programs for faculty in Maharashtra and Continuing Education Programs for industry. The Institutes holds a Convocation programme every year to confer the diplomas to successful students and also awards 20 Gold Medals and sponsored 100 cash prizes to meritorious students. A strong Alumni base of the institute, spread all over the world, supports Institute in arranging Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Project Work, Employment and Training to the students and faculty.

The Alumni, through industrial support, is planning to further modernize the existing laboratories. The Institute has a vision to be a centre of excellence and plays a lead role in the technical education system in the country, true to its mission “for the spread of light” of technical education.
